Israel's military has reported that Iran launched approximately 180 "projectiles" in an attack on the country. Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, a spokesperson for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), confirmed that there were no injuries from the strike and emphasized that this was not the first threat Israel had faced from Iran. "We are prepared for them," he stated.
Hagari characterized the assault as serious and warned of significant repercussions. According to Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed the missile strikes were in retaliation for the killing of key figures, including Nasrallah.
After the missile barrage, Iran’s mission to the United Nations stated that the attacks were a response to "the terrorist acts of the Zionist regime," adding that further aggression from Israel would provoke a "subsequent and crushing response."
Earlier that day, the White House had warned of an imminent ballistic missile attack from Iran on Israel, escalating concerns of potential all-out conflict in the region. Citizens in Tel Aviv and other cities were advised to seek shelter, reflecting heightened tensions in the streets.
In a statement released just hours before the missile launch, the White House indicated it was actively supporting Israel's defensive measures. A senior official warned that any direct military action from Iran against Israel would result in severe consequences.
Prior to the attack, Israel had assessed that Iran might target three air bases and an intelligence facility north of Tel Aviv. Following the warnings, the intelligence base in Glilot was evacuated, and contingency plans for personnel safety were activated.
Intense diplomatic efforts were reportedly underway behind the scenes, with President Biden meeting with top national security officials to discuss the situation.
As tensions escalated between Israel and Iran's regional proxies, the threat of an Iranian strike raised alarms among US and Arab diplomats about the potential scale of Israel's response, including the possibility of strikes inside Iran.
Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu urged citizens to remain united and to follow directives from frontline commands as fears of an imminent attack grew. He stressed that Israel was engaged in a "campaign against Iran’s axis of evil."
The US, meanwhile, was closely monitoring events in the region and reaffirmed its commitment to Israel's defense, advising all American personnel in Israel to shelter in place due to the heightened security situation.
